Job Summary

The Paint Prepper is responsible for preparing vehicles for the automotive paint process and helping keep work moving efficiently through the paint department. This role supports the Painter by completing the necessary prep work, organizing upcoming jobs, prioritizing tasks, and making sure vehicles are ready for paint according to company quality and safety standards. The Paint Prepper must be detail-oriented, dependable, and able to look ahead at the work in progress so the Painter has what they need to keep production moving.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare vehicles and parts for paint by completing required prep work according to company standards.

  • Sand, mask, clean, tape, and prime vehicles or parts as needed before paint.

  • Inspect work areas and vehicle surfaces to ensure they are properly prepared for the next step in the paint process.

  • Review upcoming paint work and help prioritize tasks to keep vehicles moving efficiently.

  • Line up vehicles, parts, materials, and work needed for the Painter.

  • Communicate with the Painter, Repair Managers, and team members about job status, priorities, and any concerns.

  • Identify issues that may delay paint readiness and communicate them promptly.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe paint prep area.

  • Follow company procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards.

  • Support the paint team with additional tasks as needed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


Preferred Qualifications

· Previous auto body or paint experience preferred.

· Ability to speak Spanish a plus.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.

· Knowledge of basic automotive paint preparation, including sanding, masking, cleaning, taping, and priming.

· Ability to review upcoming work, prioritize tasks, and keep jobs moving efficiently for the Painter.

· Ability to follow repair plans, company procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards.

· Strong organization skills and ability to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient prep area.

· Ability to identify prep issues, delays, or concerns and communicate them promptly.

· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced shop environment.

· Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support the Painter and the overall repair process.

· Dependability, follow-through, and pride in producing clean, paint-ready work.


Working Hours

· This role is full-time in the shop, Monday through Friday with start and stop times to be determined by manager.


Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work with hands throughout the workday.

· Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull parts, tools, and materials up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to use sanding, masking, taping, cleaning, and other paint prep tools and materials.

· Ability to work in a shop environment with noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and changing temperatures while following all safety guidelines.

· Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators, gloves, eye protection, and other safety gear as needed.


Compensation & Benefits

· This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.

· Eligible employees may elect to participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision benefit plans, subject to plan terms and eligibility requirements.

· The Company offers a 401(k) retirement savings plan with an employer matching contribution, in accordance with plan provisions.
