Paintless Dent Repair
Not every dent needs a new paint job. If your car picked up a door ding in a parking lot, or came out of a hailstorm looking dimpled across the hood and roof, there's a good chance we can pull those dents without touching the factory finish. That's paintless dent repair, and it's one of the things Unique Auto Body does across our seven Wasatch Front locations.
What paintless dent repair actually is
PDR is a repair method, not a cover-up. Instead of filling a dent with body filler and repainting the panel, a technician works the metal back into shape from behind, massaging it out with specialized rods and tabs until the surface reads flat again. The original paint never gets disturbed, which is the whole point. Your factory finish stays factory, and there's no repainted panel that might not quite match a few years down the line.
It works best on shallow dents where the paint is still intact: door dings, minor creases, and the scattered denting a hailstorm leaves behind. Utah gets plenty of those. A single spring storm rolling down the Wasatch Front can dimple every horizontal panel on a car parked out in the open.
When PDR is the right call, and when it isn't
Not every dent is a candidate, and we'd rather tell you that up front than talk you into a repair that won't hold. PDR depends on the paint being unbroken and the back of the panel being reachable. If the paint is cracked or chipped at the dent, or the damage sits on a sharp body line or somewhere we can't get behind, conventional bodywork is usually the better path. Bring the car in and a technician will look at it and give you a straight answer about which way to go.
What to expect
Most PDR jobs move fast, often a few hours rather than the days a repaint-and-blend takes. And because there's no filler, primer, or paint involved, it usually costs less too. It's the cleaner option environmentally as well, since nothing gets sanded off or sprayed on.
Every car that comes in for PDR gets inspected first, worked on by a technician who does this regularly, and checked again before it goes back to you. If a dent turns out to need more than PDR can give it, you're already at a full collision shop. We can handle the conventional repair without sending you anywhere else.
Why Unique Auto Body
We've been repairing cars along the Wasatch Front for decades, and PDR is one piece of what we do rather than a standalone gimmick. With seven locations across the valley, from West Jordan and South Jordan down through Midvale, Saratoga Springs, American Fork, and Lindon, there's usually a shop close to wherever you are. Estimates are free, and if you're not sure whether that dent is a PDR job or something more, that's exactly what an estimate sorts out.
